What Is Lock Rekeying?

Lock rekeying changes the inside of a lock so it works with a brand new key. We take the cylinder apart, swap the pins for a new combination and cut fresh keys to match. Your existing locks and hardware stay on the door, but every old key stops working. It's one of the quickest and most budget friendly ways to take back control of who can get in, and we can rekey several locks to the same key so one key opens your front door, back door and garage entry.

Why Is Lock Rekeying Necessary?

Most people have no idea how many copies of their keys are out there. Previous owners, past tenants, contractors, dog walkers and old roommates may all still have one. Rekeying is the smart move right after you buy a home, when a tenant moves out, after you lose a key or when an employee leaves your business. It usually costs less than replacing every lock and gives you the same peace of mind. It's also a good fix when you're tired of carrying a different key for every door.

What Is Required For Lock Rekeying?

To rekey, we need access to each lock and, if possible, a working key for it. If you've lost every key, that's okay, we can still open the lock and rekey it. Count how many locks you want on the new key and think about who should get a copy. For businesses, a list of doors and who uses them helps us plan the keys before we start. Your locks do need to be in good working shape, and if one is worn out, we'll tell you and give you a price to replace it instead.
